So,Ellen’s and Val’s relationship turns into a strong and true friendship. What made the gap between them smaller was the similarities they both shared. For both Ellen and Val were pregnant and were due on the same month. Ellen is fascinated and intrigued by Val’s so called “sensing gift” but yet skeptic for Ellen had a troubled history with believing in superstitions. Her skepticism diminishes when Val’s premonition of Ellen having a baby girl becomes true.
Even though Hilda is a non-believer, she continues to unconsciously rely on something for spiritual comfort. For as was with her mother’s necklace, the porcelain angel is a guardian angel that looks over Hilda’s family from Hilda’s perspective.  She also believes that by leaving London, which brought her nothing but misery, she ended her bad luck.
Gertie continues to render herself as Doug’s family’s official guardian angel. For even though paying them all wages is cumbersome on her finances and non profitable, she does it with an open heart nonetheless . To her, Doug’s family doesn’t work for her but rather are her big happy family and she does everything in her hands to please them.
Gossip about Maureen’s and Gertie’s relationship was spreading fast in the village and there was a possibility of the villagers hounding Gertie and Maureen out of the village. As soon as Ellen heard about the rumors from Val, she knew that she had to do something to protect Percy’s and her parent’s jobs and so rushed to the plant nursery to warn Gertie. With her mind preoccupied , searching for solutions to solve this problem, Ellen subconsciously drives her baby’s pram onto the main road in front of a speeding lorry.
Ellen’s baby’s tragic death in the road accident leaves everyone devastated. Hilda’s hopes of a misery-free future were crushed . As an act of grief and anger , Hilda smashes the porcelain angel onto the floor , realizing that her superstitions of the angel watching over her family were stupid and irrational.
Consumed with guilt and grief , Ellen has a deep need within her- a need to know if there really was an afterlife and  that somehow, Sarah’s soul went on. Her search for a proof of an afterlife were nevertheless  futile. She also boycotted Val for she believed that the latter sensed that Sarah was going to die but never told her.
Ellen’s new pregnancy soothed her a bit that she was now able to confront Val. At Val’s house, Pauline appeared to be acting oddly- as if playing with someone invisible. Ellen came to a conclusion that this someone was Sarah’s spirit- she finally found a proof of an afterlife and was ever so relieved. Her pain was completely eased when , out of nowhere, a butterfly appeared in the middle of the room and flew out of the window-it was the sign that the rune stones fortune teller has spoken of and the one that Ellen has long been searching for.

I still have 5 chapters to go so I didnt't read the last couple of paragraphs and I still haven't figured out who is the "lost angel", could it be her dead daughter?
Hellen is hypocritical when it comes to religion ; she loves and believes in God when the events are pleasant and to her favor but hates God ( or whatever is that that she believes in; her mom's spirit, the guardian angel , whatever) when something tragic happens. She should be faithful and thankful towards God no matter how things turn out and can't blame him for their despair. I hate her fluctuations.

Yeah seriouslyy !! She's always believing in something and then abandoning that belief as soon as she's faced with an affliction !!
And by the way, her name's Hilda :P I ALWAYS do the same mistake.. It's because her daughter's name is Ellen.. :P ;)
